CPC Learning Network

The webinar “Child Protection in the Era of Localization: Context, Voice, and Ownership,” co-hosted by the Columbia University Seminar on Global Mental Health, examined how the shift toward localization is reshaping community-based child protection. The session explored both the challenges and opportunities of localizing child protection and well-being initiatives, emphasizing the need to transfer power to communities and support genuine local ownership for sustainable impact. Through three case studies, speakers highlighted how community agency and collective action can drive transformative outcomes for children’s well-being. A panel discussion with Drs. Elen Costigan, Arturo Harker Roa, and Mike Wessells expanded on these lessons, reflecting on how similar approaches have been applied across diverse contexts to strengthen support for children and families worldwide.
