The KidsCount Data Book for 2014 is produced by the Annie E. Casey Foundation. It is the 25th edition of this data book, which measures state trends and demographics in child wellbeing in the United States. This edition compares data from 2014 to the set of data collected in the first edition of the Data Book in 1990, as well as some comparisons to other years.
The data in this report are organized around four central themes: (1) economic wellbeing, (2) education, (3) health, and (4) family and community. This report features national-level data under each of these themes and also compares data between ethnic and racial groups and between states. Some of the indicators highlighted in this report include:
- Child population by race and ethnicity
- Parental employment security
- Child poverty rates (federal and supplemental)
- Rates of pre-school enrollment
- Percentage of children with health insurance coverage
- Child mortality rates
- Percentage of children living in single-parent families
- Percentage of children living in high-poverty areas
As well as other data related to the four central themes. The report also includes some data that are relevant to children’s care, such as the number of children and families involved in the child welfare system.
