This analysis was produced as part of an independent review into children's residential care in England by Sir Martin Narey. The analysis presents the age, gender, ethnicity, legal status, and category of need of the children in children's homes, as well as their distance from home, information on the providers of services to children in children's homes, and more.
In this analysis, "children's homes" refer to all homes and hostels subject to Children's Homes regulations, and children placed in schools that are dual-registered as Children's Homes are also included in the report.
The figures represented in the study are based on data from the SSDA903 return as well as extracts from the national pupil database (NPD).
