This article introduces the series of articles in this issue of the Child Abuse and Neglect Journal which focus on the role of religion and religious communities on children’s care and protection. The article discusses the negative conceptions about religion and child protection that are often featured in the news and the little attention that is often paid to the positive impact religions have in child protection. Particularly, the article focuses on partnerships formed between religious and secular organizations to help better protect children, as well as, the role of religious leaders. The article also highlights how different religions, such as Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism and Islam, all express an understanding of the sacred value of children and the need to nurture and protect them.
