The Better Care Network and the Collaborative on Global Children’s Issues at Georgetown University’s Children in Adversity Project are co-convening a virtual consultation for care reform stakeholders to provide input on preliminary recommendations developed by the Collaborative. These recommendations aim to respond to the impact of U.S. foreign aid cuts on children and their families and sustain progress in the changing landscape.

This consultation builds on work the Children in Adversity Project has done over the past six months, between March and October 2025, to discuss with a variety of local organizations, experts, and advocates and identify potential pathways for collective action in the short and longer term. The Collaborative has developed preliminary recommendations that it would like to share and refine before publishing a report. The report will be shared and inform further discussion and action across key stakeholders including private donors, multilaterals, bilaterals, international and local civil society to elevate child protection and care.

The consultation will be interactive and involve small group discussions. We welcome the participation of all care reform stakeholders, especially leaders of local organizations in countries who are in touch with community realities and can offer perspectives on how stalled workstreams benefiting children and families can be revived and sustained. Please take this opportunity to make your voice heard.

The virtual workshop will:

  • Present key preliminary findings and recommendations emerging from past consultations.
  • Gather stakeholder feedback to refine and finalize these findings and recommendations for inclusion in a public report.
  • Identify implementation priorities and strategies, with specific attention to care reform.

Join us so that diverse perspectives are reflected in the Collaborative’s final recommendations. Together, we can find a way forward to continue supporting the development, care, and protection of children, even in this challenging financial landscape.

Note: This consultation is being organized as part of a series of workshops the Collaborative is hosting with different networks, including the Better Care Network (BCN), INSPIRE, and ECDAN, to reach a wide range of stakeholders. The content of the sessions will be similar, though tailored to the specific technical area of focus for the network, so we recommend you join the workshop that most aligns with your interests in case you are invited to multiple sessions.
