Hope and Homes for Children, Lumos, Save the Children and Plan International, Transform Alliance Africa, together with the UN OHCHR are inviting children and young people to participate in online, oral consultations on the theme of Care and Support.

The purpose of the consultation will be to gather inputs to help inform an expert workshop on the topic of care and support, which will be held in late in 2024 at the United Nations. Furthermore, the consultations will help inform a report on care and support which will be presented at the United Nations Human Rights Council in March 2025. This is an open call to all children and young people in the Eastern Europe region.  You can find the child friendly information here in EnglishFrench or Spanish

The UN will also use the information to write a report on human rights and care and support. The report will be published online in March 2025 in 6 languages (English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian) and an easy-to-read version of the report in English. The UN and States will be able to use the report to help their decisions and their work to protect human rights of people giving and receiving care and support, and their self-care.

The call will be 90 minutes (14:00 London, 15:00 Geneva, 16:00 Kiev/Chișinău - 5th September 2024), with the UN OHCHR and children, supported by the child focused NGOs.

Logistics & languages

The working language of the call will be English. If a child or young person needs interpretation, their supporting organisation will need to engage an interpreter. Please let us know in advance if interpretation is required.

Participation in the call is entirely voluntary and participants can choose to leave at any time. Adults will be available if anyone is experiencing any difficulties or having any worries. Adults may join children and young people in the call as personal assistant, support persons or to provide language support. This is a consultation for children and young people, so we do ask that adult support persons refrain from sharing their own thoughts and opinions during the call.

Adult opportunities for this work stream

You can find adult and organisational opportunities to input on the OHCHR website (see current call on leprosy )  https://www.ohchr.org/en/calls-for-input/2024/call-input-human-rights-council-resolution-546-centrality-care-and-support

For the Europe/Eastern Europe consultation

In order to take part, every child or young person will need to be supported by an organisation. All support organisations need to share their safeguarding policy with Aisling Ledwith at aisling.ledwith25@gmail.com. There will be a safeguarding lead present on the call to support if any child or young person becomes upset or uncomfortable at any stage during the consultation. Participants can step out at any stage during the call, and there will be no pressure for anyone to share information that they are not comfortable sharing. Each child and young person will only use their first name as their username and to introduce themselves, in order to help protect their privacy.
