This article from the New York Times tells the story of one 7 year-old boy from Honduras, José, who travelled to the US alone, being transported by smugglers from Mexico, to reunify with his mother in the US state of Texas. He was told before his trip that, upon arrival to the US, he should find a border patrol agent and that he'd be held in custody for a few days before being released to find his mother. However, upon his arrival, he was instead taken to a foster care facility in New York where he was held for nearly 8 months before finally being returned to his mother.
