Modern Slavery Bill passes House of Representatives

Senator Linda Reynolds, Assistant Minister for Home Affairs

This media release from the office of Australian Senator Linda Reynolds, Assistant Minister for Home Affairs, welcomes the passage of the Modern Slavery Bill of 2018, which includes orphanage trafficking. "As a result of this legislation," says the release, "Australia will also be the first nation in the world to recognise orphanage trafficking as a form of modern slavery. This means that a reporting entity with activities or supply chains which involve orphanages will need to assess and report on any risks relating to modern slavery in these operations."
