The Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince said the kidnapping of eight people from the Sainte-Hélène orphanage betrayed ‘the failure of the state and of a society that is losing its sensitivity to life’.
The people of Haiti are “increasingly overwhelmed by despair”, Pope Leo said on Sunday.
Speaking at the Angelus a week after the abduction of eight people, including a three-year-old child and an Irish missionary, the Pope condemned “violence of all kinds, human trafficking, forced displacement and kidnappings”.
