This article describes how the FAMS economic modelling project shows that greater investment in early intervention and family support services can significantly improve outcomes for children and families while reducing long-term government costs. By shifting resources away from crisis responses toward prevention, the model highlights how strengthening families early can decrease demand on child protection and other high-cost systems.
