"A total number of 1,265 children have been reported to have died in specialised adoption agencies (SAAs) across states between April 2014 to January 31, 2019," according to this article from the Times of India. Sources in the Central Adoption Resource Authority said that one of the reasons for the deaths is the poor state of health of the babies who are found abandoned and enter the homes. However, officials also stated that "neglect and lack of adequate medical facilities" in certain SAAs is a "serious concern."
