This article, and accompanying video, tells the story of Jose Alvizures and his son who were separated upon arriving to the United States from Guatemala and were kept apart for 326 days. According to the article, Alvizures and his son, Ervin, came to the US fleeing threats of violence in Guatemala. Jose stated that he was approached by an immigration officer who gave him five pages in English and told him to sign it, not knowing what the document said. Apparently, it was Jose's deportation order and he was sent back to Guatemala while his son stayed in US custody, where he was kept in government care for 5 months before he was placed in the care of an uncle in Arkansas.
