Indian Police Use New Facial Recognition Tool to Locate Thousands of Missing Children

Police in New Delhi, India have begun piloting a new facial recognition program to help identify missing children, according to this article from the Independent. "The facial recognition technology was used on around 45,000 children throughout the city, 2,930 of which were recognised as missing," says the article. Authorities are now working to reunite those children with their families. According to a spokesperson from the Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) campaign, there are about 90,000 children in India who are "lodged in various child care institutions.” The aim of this tool is to help reunite those children with their families.
