Recent consultations undertaken by the ILO in Kenya, the Philippines and Guatemala have confirmed that there is little awareness about child labour issues among indigenous peoples; that previous child labour studies and research largely ignore indigenous communities; and that few programmes and projects address indigenous child labour.
It has, however, also become increasingly clear that indigenous children are disproportionately affected by the worst forms of child labour. Specific approaches are needed to effectively combat child labour among indigenous peoples.

On 26 December 2004, a powerful tsunami washed over countries along the rim of the Indian Ocean, resulting in enormous loss of life and leaving in its wake thousands of children suddenly rendered parentless or devoid of familial caregivers. In large-scale emergencies, food aid is often one of the biggest and longest-running responses. Oxfam is concerned about the standardisation of such food-aid responses and its appropriateness in the current post-tsunami context. Where food is available, and markets functioning, cash is an appropriate alternative to food aid.

This survey highlights efforts to disarm, demobilize and reintegrate former child soldiers in Cambodia, Colombia, El Salvador, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Kosovo, analyzing them in terms of policy and legal issues, political context and program implementation. The special needs facing the former child soldiers are discussed along with political situation and child protection in each country. According to the article, the Social and Family Development Ministry of Singapore is looking to better help children in foster care or homes. Mr Chan, the minister of Social Family and Development in Singapore, indicated that the best environment for children to grow up in is one that is akin to a home environment, and this has been supported by evidence from Singapore's and overseas institutional homes.
