Scotland: National Care Standards: Foster Care and Family Placement Services

WHAT: A set of standards for  foster care services, including:   

  •  recruiting, selecting, approving, training, and supporting foster caregivers;

  • matching children and young people with foster caregivers;

  • supporting and monitoring foster caregivers; and

  • the work of agency fostering panels and other approval panels.

 WHO:  Foster care agencies, fostered children, birth families, and foster caregivers.  Also for policy makers and those assessing the quality of foster care provision.  

 WHERE: These standards are for fostering services in Scotland, UK and are specific to the resources and services available there.  Significant modifications would be required to be able to use this document in other settings. 

WHY: Serves as an example of fostering service standards from the perspective of children, birth families, and foster caregivers.
