Following thousands of comments and responses posted by the 8,000 course participants for the MOOC on COVID-19: Adapting Child Protection Case Management, as well as research and evidence being issued by child protection agencies, the Taskforce identified the need to plan for support for children for the evolving situation and in particular post-pandemic scenario.
To this end, three international experts were invited to provide short videos containing advice and opinions of experts in different regions of the world.
- Ann Skelton, a member of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child was invited to tell us how the Committee is working on a global level with governments to make these preparations.
- Matilde Luna, Director of RELAF, an NGO working across Latin America, was invited to advise us on response from a regional perspective – most especially in support of children who are at risk of losing parental care or in alternative care.
- Sophie Etzold, a Child Protection Officer for UNHCR in Uganda, provided advise and recommendations for working on preparations at a national level with a specific focus on unaccompanied and separated refugee and migrant children.
