This report provides an in-depth analysis of the Positive Parenting Annex (PPA) implemented by Catholic Relief Services in Zambia. This initiative aimed to support caregivers of children with disabilities by enhancing their parenting skills and resilience.
The evaluation revealed high satisfaction levels among caregivers, with significant improvements in parental resilience, social support, and access to essential services such as health and education. The PPA effectively increased the use of positive parenting behaviors, such as showing affection and rewarding good behavior, while reducing the reliance on corporal punishment.
Additionally, the program fostered a greater recognition of the rights of children with disabilities, encouraging caregivers to treat them with the same respect and care as other children. The PPA also played a crucial role in reducing caregiver stress by providing strategies to manage the additional challenges they face. Overall, the evaluation highlights the PPA's success in creating a supportive community environment, promoting disability rights, and improving the overall wellbeing of children with disabilities and their families.
