The study was carried out to determine the extent to which socio-psychological factors predict parents’ attitudes toward fostering children in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. To achieve this purpose, two research questions and two null hypotheses were formulated to guide the study, which adopted a correlational research design to examine relationships between independent variables and the dependent variable. The study population comprised parents from selected communities in Akwa Ibom State, with a sample drawn using a multistage sampling technique involving stratified and simple random procedures to ensure representation of both urban and rural areas. A structured questionnaire titled “Socio-Psychological Factors and Fostering Attitude Questionnaire (SPFAQ)” was developed and validated for data collection, and its reliability was confirmed using the Cronbach Alpha method, yielding a coefficient above 0.70. Data were analyzed using simple linear regression at the 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that family communication patterns and disciplinary beliefs significantly predict parents’ attitudes toward fostering children in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The study concluded that open, respectful, and supportive family communication, along with constructive disciplinary beliefs, positively influence parents’ willingness to foster children, and recommended that government agencies and social welfare organizations organize regular sensitization workshops and seminars to promote these factors.
