Abstract
Background
Newcomer families with child welfare involvement face complex COVID-19 related challenges that are still less understood within the Canadian context.
Objective
This study explored views on the changes in child safety reporting and interventions with newcomer families during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods
Using cross tabulations with Fisher exact tests, the analysis draws on survey data from the second wave of the pandemic to test for significance of differences in areas of child safety reporting, interventions with newcomer families, and available…
Objective:
The purpose of this review is to explore how UNICEF country offices have used Public Finance for Children (PF4C) analyses and interventions within child protection, with a view to learning lessons from their experiences.
As part of its mission to protect and enhance the rights for children, UNICEF works with partner governments to achieve the best possible use of public budgets. This includes the use of public financial analysis, capacity building and advocacy to ensure public funding is adequate, efficient, effective, equitable and transparent, commonly described as Public…
This case story is meant to illustrate transition, the actors involved, the challenges and the success factors; recognizing that each transition is an individual process with different starting points, different dynamics and different evolutions.
The case story complements the Phases of Transition Interactive Diagram by illustrating one or more stages of change. Story International’s transition example demonstrates the ups and downs of divesting from the orphanage model.

Caregiver death increases risks of short-term trauma and lifelong adverse consequences for children. One micro-simulation research letter estimated parental deaths in the U.S. to Feb 2021. A global study aggregated COVID-associated orphanhood and co-resident caregiver deaths across 21 countries.
This report captures overall and U.S. state-specific findings, disaggregated by race/ethnicity, for COVID-19-associated orphanhood and death of grandparent caregivers. High rates of orphanhood, marked disparities, and state-specific differences show the overlooked burden among children at…
Governments around the world responded to the spread of COVID-19 by imposing lockdowns, quarantines and school closures. While these measures have contained the spread of the virus, they have also increased the risk factors for intimate partner violence and child abuse, leading to what the UN has described as “the shadow pandemic of domestic violence”.
Family for Every Child alliance members have been in close contact with children, families and communities during the pandemic. They have seen that domestic violence is being inflicted on children either directly in the form of child abuse,…

Background
COVID-19 has become a worldwide pandemic impacting child protection services (CPSs) in many countries. With quarantine and social distancing restrictions, school closures, and recreational venues suspended or providing reduced access, the social safety net for violence prevention has been disrupted significantly. Impacts include the concerns of underreporting and increased risk of child abuse and neglect, as well as challenges in operating CPSs and keeping their workforce safe.
Objective
The current discussion paper explored the impact of COVID-19 on child…

Abstract
Background and objectives
There is widespread concern that the COVID-19 pandemic has increased the incidence of child maltreatment. However, reports in the scientific literature documenting rates of child maltreatment during this period are scarce. This study was designed to explore whether the incidence of child maltreatment among patients presenting to a pediatric emergency department has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods
We conducted a retrospective review of patients of all ages presenting to a pediatric Emergency Department trauma center, who also had a…
