This page offers a Directory of Organizations working on children’s care issues around the world, at a local, national, regional, and/or global level. The Directory is provided to encourage information sharing and communication between actors working in this sector.

Please note that the inclusion or exclusion of organizations in this Directory does not necessarily entail any judgement or endorsement on the part of BCN or its advisory group on the quality of their programs or services. In line with BCN's Mission, criteria for adding an organization to the Directory include evidence of relevant work in the areas of family strengthening, prevention of separation, alternative care, reintegration and transition from care, care reform, and other relevant areas. We are continuing to expand our directory and welcome suggestions of additional organizations to highlight.

First Fruit

Founded in 1976, First Fruit is a Christian organization that works to support Christian organizations operating in the Global South. Whether the context of leadership is rural or urban, grassroots or multi-national, church-based or in the business, public or social sectors, we want to support these leaders by offering the most applicable resources available.

Global Child Advocates

Global Child Advocates began in 2008, in response to a few children working on the streets in Thailand, where young girls and boys begged at night or dug through the trash for recyclables to sell. If they did not earn enough money each day, they were ‘beaten’. We responded by opening a ‘Safe house’ for these children, which was always meant to provide short-term care.

Haiti Mama

Haiti Mama provides a community-based service alternative to orphanages. They work to reunite children with kin, rehabilitate impoverished parents, and restore broken family systems. Their services empower each client to meet their own individualized goals for sustaining themselves and their families. They are committed to ethical practices that show dignity to the people they serve.

Heaven's Family

Heaven’s Family was founded in 2002 by David and Becky Servant. Heaven’s Family actually began as a teaching ministry directed towards pastors and Christian leaders living in developing nations. Today, Heaven’s Family is increasingly invested in helping catalyze disciple-making movements among unreached people groups.

Home Free

Home Free helps children at risk of growing up in orphanages, and those living in institutions to to grow up in loving families. They support children with school fees, medical care and other necessities, so that they can live and thrive at home. And, they work with local communities to protect children from harm, and to ensure every child can grow up in a loving family.

Hope and Homes for Children

Home and Homes for Children is a UK-based charity that works to close orphanages and get the children inside them back to family.

Around the world, more than 5.4 million children are confined in orphanages, even though 80% of them have family they could be living with if they had the right support.

Hope and Homes for Children Romania

Hope and Homes is a UK-based organization that works across Europe and Africa to support deinstitutionalisation and strengthen family-based care for children. Hope and Homes for Children is working alongside governments and civil society organisations in over 30 countries to dismantle orphanage-based care systems.

Hope and Homes for Children Ukraine

Hope and Homes for Children has worked in Ukraine since 1998. Ukraine has one of the largest system of institutional care in Europe, with almost 100,000 children living in 663 orphanages. Hope and Homes' work began with the development of a number of family based alternatives to institutional care, followed by the creation of services for mothers and babies. In 2007 they began a pilot closure of an orphanage near Kiev, allowing them to demonstrate how, through the development of quality family support services and family based alternative care, institutions are unnecessary.

Established in 2009, Human Welfare Voluntary Organisation (HWVO) is a non-profit developmental organization dedicated to fostering a just and equitable world by addressing community challenges. HWVO takes a community-based approach, emphasizing collaboration, inclusivity, and compassion in developing sustainable solutions. The organization actively engages with local systems and works alongside individuals to identify and tackle the issues affecting their lives.
