On September 18th, 2014, the U.S. Senate approved bipartisan child welfare legislation aimed at reducing child sex trafficking, increasing adoptions and improving child support collections.

The WRC will undertake the second year of a two-year research project focused on ensuring livelihood programs implemented during emergencies are effective and safe for participants, and that they do not heighten risks of gender-based violence but, in fact, help to mitigate those risks. The Program Officer will field test the recommendations, guidance and tool(s) emerging from the first year of the research project. The PO will also conduct trainings in the field and through webinars from lessons learned over the second year.

In this TED talk, pediatrician Nadine Burke Harris explains how childhood trauma--such as abuse, neglect and parents struggling with mental health or substance abuse--has real, tangible effects on the development of the child's brain. Children who have experienced high levels of trauma and adverse childhood experiences are at triple the risk for heart disease and lung cancer. This is because of the body's stress response system, which is activated repeatedly during childhood by the adversity. 

This study tested whether the extent of delays in support seeking is associated with working alliance for parents with mild intellectual disabilities (MID) and whether the importance of working alliance may depend on parenting stress and availability of informal support.

This paper provides new evidence on parent and child reporting of corporal punishment, drawing on data from the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study, a birth cohort study of families in 20 medium to large US cities.
